By now you are well familiar with the storyline: Sean won another week of Gehlke Bros. Football picks — his ninth such achievement in 10 weeks — widening his lead in the Surfy contest to 16 games in the process. But in the never ending search for silver linings to the dark, miserable cloud that has been the Senior Bro’s season thus far, there was a wee glimmer of hope in Week 10: Glenn lost just one game in the standings and moved ahead of King Chaos for second place overall.

That was the extent of the surprises from Week 10, which officially marked the start of the season’s second half. For the Junior Bro, it no longer seems to be a question of if he will recapture the elusive GBF championship he last won in 2012, but when and by how many games. On Sunday there were no signs of a second half letdown, as the lucky breaks continued to go his way.

That luck was in evidence early in the day when the Junior Bro picked up a victory with the Jaguars, who came back at home with a game-tying field goal and then won 20-17 in overtime against the visiting Chargers. That spoiled what might have been a winning weekend for Glenn, who was able to pick up a split when visiting Minnesota defeated Washington, 38-30. That left the rubber match on Sunday night between the Patriots and Broncos. Glenn, hoping for the upset, took Denver on their home turf, but Tom Brady and company were in peak form as New England shredded their hosts, 41-16, and helped Sean extend his streak of success to seven straight winning weeks.

With just 14 games on the schedule, Sean clocked in first at 9-5. Glenn went 8-6 for second best, while Ben somehow managed to go 4-10, slipping three games behind his dad in so doing. It’s been a ridiculously bad year for breaking even. We all correctly picked Seattle, Tennessee and Carolina for their victories, but no one guessed Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Atlanta or San Francisco (finally breaking into the win column at 1-9.)
