There's a new overall leader in the Gehlke Bros. Football standings. For the first time since the season began, Ben has relinquished his spot atop the prognosticating pile, yielding the way for his dad to set the pace — for one week, at any rate. But despite the changing of the guard on a grander scale, the Senior Bro's lead in the hunt for the Surfy Trophy remains steady at four games.

That is because despite all the appearances it had of being destined to produce a lot of splits, Week 6 in reality turned out to be largely uneventful. The Brothers Gehlke were mostly on the same page with their "daring" picks of road teams in several key games, and in so doing wound up with just two splits.

Siding with the visitng team almost always puts one at a disadvantage, and that may have played a role in how things went down on Sunday. Both splits were won by the home team — Detroit in a come-from-behind 31-28 victory over the Rams, and Washington with a 27-20 win over visiting Philadelphia. Sean took the former while Glenn got the latter.

Two other games that we both took a flyer on the visitors — Denver-San Diego and Atlanta-Seattle — didn't pan out for the roadies either, although it worked out just fine for Dallas up in Green Bay. Too bad we didn't follow the Chaos Kid's lead on that one. Although Ben was not immune from being led astray by visiting teams this week, getting burned by the likes of San Francisco, Indianapolis and the New York Jets, some critical stumbles that ultimately cost him three games in the overall standings.

Sean celebrated his birthday weekend by tying his older brother's 10-5 record to win Week 6. Ben went 7-8 for third place. We all correctly picked home winners Tennessee, New Orleans and New England, but we collectively failed to pick San Diego and Miami, who also were inhospitable hosts at home.
