Three is one of the most difficult numbers to come by in the NawFuL, whether it is booting a game-winning field goal with time running out, moving one's win-loss record to 3-0 (or its converse, 0-3), or trying to pull within three games of the Chaos Kid in the Gehlke Bros. Football overall standings. But we saw all three of those things occur in Week 3.

It was a big week for splits, with the Senior and Junior Bro turning in six of them, largely because Glenn picked against the herd in a few games. That strategy can either pay dividends or end in disaster, but this go around it appears to have worked, as the Senior Bro took four of them to take over the lead in the Surfy Trophy standings for the first time.

Glenn's most notable success came in picking winless Buffalo over heavily favored Arizona, and the Bills responded by handing the Cardinals a brutal 33-18 defeat. He was less fortunate in selecting Jacksonville over Baltimore, two teams clearly headed in different directions. The game was decided by a Justin Tucker field goal, and the Ravens moved to 3-0 while the Jaguars sunk to 0-3.  The morning portion of the splits ended with a great matchup between Denver and Cincinnati, and it was the Broncos delivering for the Senior Bro with a 29-17 win.

The lone afternoon split featured Los Angeles at Tampa Bay, a game delayed for nearly a hour late in the fourth quarter when a lightning storm threatened and everyone in the stadium headed for shelter. The Bucs could find no shelter from the Rams when the game resumed, falling to the visitors, 37-32.

Sunday and Monday night games have not been good to Glenn so far this season; he was just one of five through the first two weeks. He met with mixed results this week, taking Sunday night's Bears-Cowboys game, 31-17, to guarantee a winning week. That was tempered a bit when Atlanta thrashed NFC South rival New Orleans on Monday, 45-32, to keep Sean within a game of the defending champ.

Glenn notched an 11-5 record to win the week and pull to within three games of the Chaos Kid, who tied Sean for second with a 9-7 record. We all correctly predicted wins by New England, Miami, Green Bay, Seattle and Indianapolis. Two upsets caught us all by surprise, as Philadelphia remained undefeated and Washington got its first win on the road.
