The most challenging part of the football season is not the nail-biting final weeks when the Surfy Trophy is on the line in a neck-and-neck contest, or the muddled middle when the bye weeks inevitably throw logic on its ear; it's the first three weeks when we're still getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of this year's teams, and looking for those sleepers that will be shaping the conversation in the months to come. Dial into those trends early and you just might sail on to victory in January. Guess wrong, and you find yourself where the Gehlke Bros. are after Week 2 — peering through the dust cloud that is being left in the Chaos Kid's wake.

Ben's unconventional style of picking games has worked well for him so far this year -- which is to say that throwing darts at the wall to see what sticks occasionally succeeds. In a week that looked deceptively easy to predict — and which saw the Bros produce a meager two splits — Ben decided to be the lone wolf in bucking the trend on such picks as Dallas, Tennessee, Minnesota and the N.Y. Jets. He won all of those games, helping boost his lead by an additional three games in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, Glenn and Sean each won one of their splits. It was the Giants shaking off a late tie with the Saints to take a 16-13 win at the buzzer and give the Senior Bro his victory. Sean, who was exploring the grasslands of Wyoming rather than glued to his TV set on Sunday, missed the Texans' 19-12 home win over the lackluster Chiefs to maintain his 1-game advantage in the Surfy standings.

Ben won for the second straight week with his 11-5 record. Glenn and Sean tied for second at 8-8, a mediocre mark that illustrates how unpredictable things can be, even in a seemingly "easy" week. We all correctly picked, Pittsburg, New England, Baltimore, Arizona, San Diego and Denver. We all whiffed on Los Angeles, Atlanta and Philadelphia.
