Paying homage to Al

Strange things seem to happen during the bye weeks, and the first one of the 2011 season was no exception. With just 13 games on the schedule, the Bros succeeded in splitting seven of them, leading to plenty of excitement during the early part of the Sunday schedule. Sean, visiting with family down in Southern California, wasn't tuned in to the scores, so he was in for quite a treat when he eventually got around to checking out the game highlights.

The Junior Bro's weekend got off to a fast start when Minnesota notched its first win of the season in a 34-10 triumph over Arizona. Then Kansas City came from behind on the road to hand Indy its fifth straight defeat, 28-24. The momentum was clearly in his favor when Cincinnati took a 30-20 road win at Jacksonville.

Glenn didn't have a lot to cheer about until his Steelers walloped Tennessee 38-17 and Buffalo intercepted Philadelphia late in the game to preserve a 31-24 win. It looked as if he might escape the day with a tie when the Texans made a drive late in the fourth quarter against the Raiders, trailing by less than a touchdown. But David Carr's last pass to the end zone was intercepted, sealing Oakland's 25-20 victory as it mourned the loss of team owner Al Davis the previous day. Just win, baby.

That brought us to the Monday night game, where Sean hoped his Bears could end the Lions' perfect season. But Detroit had other ideas, shrugging off a slow start to grab a 24-13 win, pushing the team to 5-0 for the first time in 55 years while also limiting the Senior Bro's suffering to a net loss of 1 game in the Gehlke Bros. Football season standings. Sean now leads by 2 games.

Sean was the week's winner at 9-4, while Glenn and Ben tied for second at 8-5. We all correctly picked winners New Orleans, San Diego, New England and Green Bay. Seattle surprised us all in its toppling of the Giants.
