Taking stock of the situation

Nearly a quarter of the way through the Gehlke Bros. Football season, the gyrations of the standings each week have resembled the recent wild swings of the Dow Jones Industrials average. No modest gains or losses to be found here, as one Bro or the other has picked up at minimum two games each week. In Week 4, it was a 3-game swing in favor of the Junior Bro.

Sean's good fortune began when a pair of winless teams clashed in Kansas City. The Chiefs showed they still know how to win, taking it to the Vikings, 22-17. Glenn had high hopes that Dallas could make its 24-point 3rd quarter lead stand up at home against Detroit, but watched in disbelief as the Lions stormed back for a 34-30 final.

That was the last nail-biter as the Ravens easily dispatched the visiting Jets in the Sunday night game, 34-17, giving Sean a sweep of the weekend and his first lead on the season. In fact, it is the first time that Sean has sat atop the standings since Week 6 of the 2009 season.

Sean won the week with a commanding 14-2 performance, while Ben was second at 13-3, and Glenn finished third at 11-5. Everyone correctly picked winners New Orleans, Chicago, Tennessee, Houston, Washington, New York Giants, Atlanta, Green Bay, New England, San Diego and Tampa Bay. Our collective misses included Cincinnati and San Francisco.
