Time for some razzle dazzle

Nearing the end of the season, teams often change their strategy. Those that are fighting for postseason action turn their level of play up a notch, while those that are woefully out of contention play for pride. Then there are those mid-packers clinging to the barest of hope that a series of miracles might propel them to an unlikely title.

That is where the Junior Bro finds himself at the end of Week 15, which admittedly was a desperate scramble to generate winnable splits with Senior Bro, who has mounted a large lead in the Gehlke Bros. Football season standings. Early Sunday, it looked as though his gamble might find traction.

The Falcons came from behind in the waning moments to defeat the Jets 10-7, giving Sean the first of the weekend's four splits. But subsequent games didn't go his way. The 49ers were no match for the host Eagles in snowy Philly, and then Ben Roethlisberger delivered a devastating blow when he propelled the Steelers to a last-second 37-36 victory over the visiting Packers. Combined with the Giants' domination of the Redskins on Monday night, Glenn increased his lead to 10 games with just two weeks remaining in the season.

Glenn won the week with a 10-6 record, Sean was second at 8-8, and Ben finished third at 7-9. There were several opportunities to begin mounting a comeback amid a week filled with upsets, but having the foresight to make those picks proved difficult for all of us. Our collective accurate predictions included Indianapolis (the lone 14-0 team), New England, Arizona and Baltimore. No one guessed that Dallas would topple the Saints, nor that Cleveland would take down Kansas City in a shootout, nor that Oakland would upset arch rival Denver, and particularly not that Tampa Bay would defeat Seattle up in the Pacific Northwest.
