Third, we learned that the Gehlke Bros. still know how to pick 'em despite being a bit rusty after several months away from observing the gridiron. Glenn and Sean found enough disagreement in Week 1 to produce five splits, three of which were settled in favor of the Senior Bro to give him his first lead in the Gehlke Bros. Football competition since the middle of last season. Glenn got the benefit of victories by Indianapolis, Seattle and the New York Giants, while Sean got a decisive shutout from Buffalo over the Patsies and a road win from the Michael Vick-less Atlanta Falcons over Dull-as to keep pace.
Glenn won the week with an 11-5 mark, while Ben tied with his Uncle Sean at 10-6. The early season surprises were plentiful, accounting in large part for us all incorrectly predicting Miami and Green Bay as winners the Dolphins perhaps took Houston too lightly, while the Packers just looked flat at home against a revived Minnesota offense. We all correctly picked the wins of Detroit, Pittsburgh, Denver, Carolina, Kansas City and the mighty 49ers (who found their number on the scoreboard against Chicago).
Is it too early to say the Niners will be awesome this year? We'll revisit this subject after next week's game against the Rams.
