Week 11 — Results

Season update — Sean leads by 2

Just when you thought the Gehlke Bros. had forgotten how to disagree, along comes Week 11 with six splits. Were we making up for lost time, perhaps? After going two straight weeks where we agreed on everything, it was refreshing to see a few of those orange "SPLIT" labels next to several games. Unfortunately for the Senior Bro, a lot of that orange turned to red by Sunday's end as Sean picked up four of the disputed games.

The Junior Bro capitalized on home victories by Atlanta, Tennessee and a 1-point squeaker by Kansas City, then got a road win from the New York Jets to provide the winning margin and take a two-game lead in the season standings. Glenn's bacon was saved from further cooking thanks to Miami and Oakland both winning at home.

The highlight of the weekend was John Madden's attempt to explain what a meteor shower looks like during Monday Night Football. The chalkboard drawing he came up with resembled a nuclear explosion over the city of St. Louis, not unlike the explosive power being unleashed in Sean's graphic at the top of this update. Will we look back on this as the breakout week in the 2002 Gehlke Bros. Football season?

The lowlight had to have been the Eagles losing Donovan McNabb for the rest of the season and probably the playoffs after Arizona turned his right ankle into mutton stew during Philly's big win Sunday. Hopefully his mama saved him an extra bowl of Chunky Soup because the team needs to get him healthy quick if it hoped to survive the postseason. Can we say Super Bowl MVP Koy Detmer? We thought not.

For the week — the first since the beginning of the season in which all 32 teams were in action — Sean set the pace at 12-4, cutting into Ben's unofficial lead, which now stands at five games after he and Glenn both went 10-6. We all correctly predicted the victories of Cleveland, Indianapolis, the New York Giants, Tampa Bay, Denver, Jacksonville and St. Louis. We were skunked in choosing the upset-bound Packers and Niners.

Talk about frustration — the Pack losing to pathetic Minnesota and San Francisco getting dumped in OT at San Diego. At least the Niners knew how to lose, unlike the Falcons and Steelers a week ago.
