Season update: Sean leads by 7
It may be the dawn of a new year, but it's still the same old NawFuL. Just take a look at the seemingly easy lineup of games from this week and you'd wonder how the Bros. could go wrong in their picks. But there's something magical in a pathetic sort of way about the end of a season, when the playoff-bound teams "rest" their alleged defenses and the also-rans start playing for pride, or what they might have left of it. The result is upsets.
Buffalo picked up its third win of the year by toppling the playoff-contending Jets, and Cleveland provided a rude homecoming for the Titans. Pittsburg must have been getting an early start on New Year's Eve partying to lose in OT at Sin-cinnati. Our beloved Raiders and Niners had the rugs yanked out from under them by the likes of Denver and Dull-as, respectively. Somehow Detroit remained true to form in finding its 14th loss of the season against Chicago. Of course, it was plenty of missed opportunities for the Bros., as we were in near agreement on all the games. If there was a bright spot it was that San Diego's season is now officially over, which is one less bad team we have to make predictions for next week.
Glenn won the week with a 9-6 record, thanks to Tampa Bay's win at home over Baltimore on Saturday. Sean and Ben tied at 8-7. With a seven-game lead going into the final weekend, Junior Bro's third consecutive Surfy looks pretty much a lock. We all called the wins by Arizona, Miami, Chicago, St. Louis, Green Bay and Denver. We missed out on the wins of Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas and Washington.
NawFuL UPDATE: Next week we return to Week 2 as the NawFuL makes up the games postponed by the Sept. 11 disaster, and we enjoy our last Monday night game of the season, a week into 2002.
