Season update: Sean leads by 1
This is not the way anyone wanted to start off a brand new football season. As we prepared to post the results from Week 1 we were shaken by the news of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C. Suddenly, the importance of who won what and by how much seemed less important than honoring fallen fellow citizens and keeping an eye on the news from the scene of the catastrophy. It is with deepest sympathies that we offer our best wishes to the families and friends of the victims and the people assisting in the recovery efforts.
Now, to recap the first week of the Gehlke Bros. competition, Benji gets a tip of the cap for his incredible 11-4 performance while his dad and uncle posted more average numbers. Sean bested the Bros. with a 9-6 mark while Glenn finished 8-7. In perhaps a precursor of the events that would unfold on Tuesday, both New York teams and the Washington Redskins lost, the 'Skins in convincing fashion (30-3) at the hands of last year's poster child for futility, San Diego. The Jets faired a bit better against the Colts, but the result was still a loss. Those two games accounted for a pair of split victories by the Junior Bro, which enabled Sean to escape with a slim lead going into Week 2 (Now Week 3). Only Cincinnati's victory over the Patsies kept Sean from getting the sweep.
We all correctly predicted wins by Green Bay, New Orleans, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Denver. We were fooled by picking loser Tennessee. With our new format we are now keeping running season-to-date picks totals at the bottom of each weekly page so you will know instantly where we stand. Let us know how you like the new look.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of the events in New York and our nation's capital, the NFL has canceled all Week 2 games. The Gehlke Bros. will return for Week 3 predictions.
