Week 1 dawned with hope and anticipation for the Gehlke Bros. -- hope for a fast start and anticipation of 17 weeks of nail-biting picks action. But as the gridiron dust settled Sunday night it was apparent that luck had been on Glenn's side. The senior Bro picked up where he left off last season; despite compiling a feeble weekly record of 8-7, he managed to stake an early three-game cushion in the Bros. annual picks competition, thanks to wins by the Jaguars, Bears and Saints.
Meanwhile, Benji (who is playing as an auditing member of the Bros. competition) and Sean compiled 5-10 marks. It was a week full of surprises, which accounted for our poor prognosticating performance. Although we all picked the victories of Tennessee and Green Bay, we were all caught off guard with the losses by Baltimore, Buffalo, Seattle, Tampa Bay, the New York Jets (and Vinnie Testaverde) and Denver (weren't those fireworks cool, though?). Benji outpicked the Bros. on one game, correctly guessing the Dallas win over Washington.
